Swine Flu Impact Tracking Development & Spread of the Disease

I had been waiting for it!  The first evidence of swine flu impacting our activities.  Yesterday I received notification of the first example of a prospective client not being available and the reason given being that the person involved was off with “swine flu”.

I have been tracking the development and spread of the swine flu disease and found an excellent website which shows the rate of infection, the number of new cases and the cumulative number of cases and deaths: http://flutracker.rhizalabs.com/

The graphical representations of the number of new cases of swine flu identified would seem to suggest that the rate of infection is on the decline at present.

If the whole pandemic does turn out to have been blown out of proportion it will be interesting to see what the long term effects will be of people having taken anti-viral drugs as a precaution over an extended period of time.  Nothing I have read suggests that this kind of extended, preventative application has ever been tested.

This link has a table showing the trend in the rate of spread in each country http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_by_country

At present the trend in the UK is a decline in the rate of spread.
